Matteo Tortone nasce a Pinerolo nel 1982 e si laurea in Lettere all'Università di Torino. Dal 2006 lavora nel cinema come regista, sceneggiatore, produttore e direttore della fotografia.

Con Alessandro Baltera firma White Men, presentato al Festival dei Popoli e premiato al Kazan Film Festival. Come direttore della fotografia collabora, tra gli altri, a Rada di Alessandro Abba Legnazzi, premiato per la fotografia al Krakow Film Festival, e a Traverser di Joël Akafou, presentato alla Berlinale. Nel 2016 cofonda Malfé Film. Il suo primo lungometraggio da regista, Mother Lode, arriva alla Settimana Internazionale della Critica di Venezia dopo l'Eurimages Lab Project Award. Domenica Sera, cortometraggio del 2024, chiude SIC@SIC e vince il David di Donatello 2025 come miglior cortometraggio.

Matteo Tortone was born in Pinerolo in 1982 and graduated in Literature from the University of Turin. Since 2006 he has worked in cinema as a director, screenwriter, producer and cinematographer.

With Alessandro Baltera he co-directed White Men, presented at Festival dei Popoli and awarded at Kazan Film Festival. As a cinematographer he worked, among others, on Alessandro Abba Legnazzi's Rada, awarded for cinematography at Krakow Film Festival, and on Joël Akafou's Traverser, presented at the Berlinale. In 2016 he co-founded Malfé Film. His first feature as director, Mother Lode, was presented at Venice Critics' Week after receiving the Eurimages Lab Project Award. Sunday Night, a 2024 short film, closed SIC@SIC and won the 2025 David di Donatello for Best Short Film.
